Record Opening-Night Crowd Sees Wenatchee Blank Knights 4-0
Three players banged out two hits but the Knights fell 4-0 to Wenatchee at Goss Stadium in their West Coast League home opener.
Austin Feist (pictured, above, St. Martin’s), Cody Hawken (Portland) and Chandler Anderson (Utah) had two hits apiece but the Knights (3-6, 2-4 WCL) stranded 10 baserunners, disappointing a record opening-night crowd of 2,052.
Corvallis starter Aaron Shoup pitched into the sixth and allowed two runs, only one of which was earned. The AppleSox (3-3 WCL) added two more unearned runs in the ninth; the Knights had three errors, leading to three unearned runs.
Wenatchee starter Curtis Barfus (VCU) struck out nine and spaced six hits to even his record at 1-1. Closer Troy Stainbrook (Biola) went the final two innings and had four strikeouts.
The series continues at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday. Portland’s Connor Knutson (1-0, 7.11) is the projected starter for the Knights, opposed by Steen Fredrickson (0-0, 0.00) of Montana State-Billings in a matchup of right-handers.

The series concludes at 6:30 p.m. Thursday. The scheduled starters are San Francisco righty Daniel Slominski (0-0, 1.50) for Corvallis and MSU-Billings lefty Sam Wong (1-0, 2.57).
Thursday is Corvallis Chamber Business After Hours and Magnet Schedule Giveaway Night. The first 1,000 fans receive a Knights’ schedule magnet.
The Knights then host Cowlitz on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The homestand concludes on Monday with a nonleague game with the Gresham GreyWolves.
