Corvallis Escapes with 4-3 Win at Port Angeles; Sweeps Lefties
Wednesday, June 9, Port Angeles, Wash. – Future Oregon State Beavers pitcher Braden Boisvert registered his second save of the season by striking out two of the three batters he faced with the bases juiced at Civic Field.
Boisvert entered the game with the bases loaded and one out with the Knights up 4-2. He struck out the first batter he faced on three pitches before giving up a RBI single. He recorded the final out of the game on a strikeout to give Corvallis the victory.
Knights pitching held the Lefties hitless for 8 1/3 innings. With reliever Jackson Arnsdorf of Corban on the mound, frosh Trevor Tishenkel of Cal broke-up the Corvallis no-hitter with a single. Arnsdorf had the next Port Angeles hitter, future UCLA Bruin Jack Holman, 0-2 before hitting the left-handed slugger. Arnsdorf then walked the next batter setting up Boisvert’s heroics.
Corvallis starter Ty Uber was brilliant. The future Stanford Cardinal pitcher did not allow a hit over 5 1/3 innings while walking 4 and striking out 6. He earned the win.
Arnsdorf replaced lefty Colton Meyer in the 7th after Meyer walked the first three batters of the inning. Port Angeles would score two runs without a hit in the inning and then Arnsdorf, who earned second-team all-WCL honors with Corvallis in 2019, set Port Angeles down in order in the 8th.
The Knights scored first, plating three runs in the fourth inning thanks to a three-run home run by frosh catcher Jacob Weiss of University of the Pacific.
Corvallis would pick-up a fourth run in the 6th on a sac fly by Briley Knight of University of Portland. The Knights collected 7 hits in total, two by Weiss and two by future Oregon State shortstop Travis Bazzana.
With the win, Corvallis improves to 4-2 and heads home for an extended break June 10-14. The Knights resume WCL action on Tuesday, June 15 at Walla Walla. Opening Night at Goss Stadium is Friday, June 18 as Corvallis welcomes division rival Cowlitz.
