Knights Take Series Opener at Walla Walla, 9-2.

Tuesday, June 15, Walla Walla, Wash. – The Corvallis Knights started their second road trip of the season on the right foot by beating Walla Walla 9-2 at Borleske Stadium.

Corvallis shortstop Travis Bazzana, the league’s leading hitter and future Oregon State Beaver, led the onslaught, going 3-for-5 with a triple and 4 RBIs. Frosh outfielder Nick Vogt of UC Santa Barbara collected 3 hits and scored twice in his Knights debut.

Incoming frosh third baseman Tanner Smith had two hits, and delivered a three-run double in the 9th to push the Knights lead to 9-1. Junior-to-be Taison Corio of Cal Poly went 2-for-3 in his Corvallis debut.

The Knights scored 2 in the third, a run in the fourth and 3 more in the fifth.

Reliever Sean Wiese of George Fox picked up the win as the sophomore-to-be southpaw threw 5 scoreless innings and struck out 5.

Corvallis improves to 5-2 on the WCL season, all road contests.

Game two of the series is set for tomorrow night at 6:35 pm at Borleske Stadium. The Knights probable starting pitcher is four-year Corvallis hurler Connor Redmond of Montana State-Billings.

Also debuting for the Knights on Tuesday night were redshirt freshmen outfielder Thomas Dukart of Oregon State and catcher Jake Leitgeb of Washington; frosh outfielder Nate Nankil of Cal State Fullerton and sophomore-to-be first baseman Kiko Romero of Central Arizona College. Dukart and Leitgeb both had singles, their first hits as Corvallis Knights.
