Knights continue early-season rampage with 14-6 win at Bend
Tuesday, June 4, Bend, Ore. – The Corvallis Knights continued their early-season blitzkrieg through the West Coast League on June 4 with a 14-6 victory over the Bend Elks at Vince Genna Stadium.
The Knights (4-0 all, 3-0 WCL) hit double figures for the third consecutive game in the series opener against their long-time WCL rivals. They have now outscored the opposition 38-7 in their first three WCL games.
Corvallis scored in each of the first six innings to build a 14-1 advantage before the Elks tacked on some late window-dressing runs. Corvallis had four doubles in its 16-hit attack.
Brandon Cabrera (Lewis-Clark State) was 3-for-5 with a double, two RBIs and three runs. CJ Coyler (Pacific) was 2-for-5 with two runs, three RBIs and a double and Tyler Howard (Portland) was 3-for-5 with two RBIs.
Kevin Takeuchi (USC) was 2-for-5 with an RBI and three runs; Colter McAnelly was 2-for-6 with two RBIs and Peyton Miller (Gonzaga) scored three times.
Starter Ethan Foley (Ohlone College) pitched four scoreless innings in his Corvallis debut, allowing one hit and striking out five. Reliever Kaden Segel (Portland) quelched a three-run Bend rally in the seventh by inducing the first batter he faced to hit into an inning-ending double play, and he added two scoreless innings to close it out.
The series continues at 6:35 p.m. on June 5. Caleb Debban (0-0, 0.00) of George Fox will start for the Knights, opposed by Simon Lenke (1-0, 1.80) of Columbia Basin CC. Thursday’s 6:35 p.m. finale matches Lucas Casey (0-0, 0.00) of Cal State Northridge for the Knights vs. Utah’s Jackson Elder (0-0, 1.80) for Bend.
The Knights then travel to Yakima Valley (June 7-9), return home for an off day on June 10, then head up to Portland (June 11-13) for a series with the Pickles.
Corvallis opens the home portion of the season on Friday, June 14 when they host the Port Angeles Lefties in a 6:35 p.m. contest at Goss Stadium.
In other news, the WCL announced the Knights game at Cowlitz postponed on June 2 has been rescheduled for 5 p.m. June 26 as the opener of a doubleheader at Goss Stadium. The Black Bears will be the home team in the first game.
