Brooks Hatch Blog: Catching Up With Our Minor-League Knights

Happy Thursday, everyone, from the world-wide headquarters (WWHQ) of the Corvallis Knights, your 2016 West Coast League champions!

The Knights fell 3-0 at Walla Walla on Wednesday night in the opener of a three-game series with the Sweets at Borleske Stadium. The series resumes at 7:05 tonight; Dakota Donovan (1-0, 3.60) gets the start for Corvallis, opposed by Darius Vines (0-1, 4.97) in a matchup of South Division all-star right-handers.

It concludes at 7:05 p.m. Friday. Connor Redmond (1-2, 2.89) is the projected starter for Corvallis, opposed by Tim Josten (4-0, 2.45) for the Sweets. We then head to Yakima Valley for a three-game set with the Pippins.

Our next home game is Tuesday against the Salem Capitols of the Oregon Collegiate Baseball League.

TAYLOR ARD (AA Jacksonville, Marlins): The utility player from Mt. Hood/Washington State (2009) is hitting .223 (62-278) in 89 games, with eight homers and 37 RBIs.

ANDY COSGROVE (R Elizabethton, Twins): The catcher from Washington/North Carolina State (2014) is hitting .241 (7-29) in eight games, with no homers and five RBIs.

BLAKE DRAKE (A Palm Beach, Cardinals): The outfielder from Concordia (2013) is hitting .257 (48-187) in 49 games, with four homers and 17 RBIs.

NATE ESPOSITO (A Lakewood, Royals): The catcher from Oregon State/Concordia (2012) is hitting .255 (39-153) in 45 games, with no homers and 14 RBIs.

Colorado Springs (AAA Pacific Coast, Brewers) catcher Andrew Susac (2009) was 3-for-6 with a homer, a double, a run and four RBIs in an 8-4 win over Omaha on Wednesday to earn Corvallis Knights Minor League Player of the Day honors. He played at Oregon State.

Honorable mention goes to:

  • Charlotte (AAA International, White Sox) first baseman Danny Hayes (2010) was 2-for-4 with a homer and two RBIs in a 7-6 loss to Rochester. He played at OSU.
  • Elizabethton (R Appalachian, Twins) catcher Andy Cosgrove (2014) was 2-for-3 with three runs and an RBI in a 17-8 win over Bristol. He played at Washington and at North Carolina State.
