The New Jersey Jackals of the independent Can-Am League have signed alum Dean Green (2008) for the 2018 season. He is a first baseman/designated hitter from Oklahoma State and Barry University who was a key part of our 2008 WCL championship team.

The 28-year old left-handed hitter brings seven years of experience, including six seasons in the Detroit Tigers organization. He played in Japan in 2017 for the Tokyo Yakult Swallows (Nippon Professional Baseball’s Central League).

“The organization is very excited about the acquisition of Dean. He will be right in the middle of our lineup and be the run producer we were looking for,” Jackals’ manager Brooks Carey said. “This is the kind of signing that will be a difference maker for us.”

The Tigers selected Dean in the11th round of the 2011 MLB Amateur Draft. He has a career .306 batting average with 76 homers, 401 RBIs and a .371 OBP as a player in the Detroit farm system, topping out with Toledo in the triple-A International League in 2016.

He played at every level in the Detroit organization, and was named o both the New York-Penn League (short-season Single-A) All-Star team and the Topps Short-Season Rookie All-Star Team. He was also named to the Midwest League (Single-A) and Eastern League (Double-A) All-Star teams while playing for the West Michigan Whitecaps and Erie SeaWolves, respectively.

Nick was a unanimous All-American in 2017 after being named the Pac-12 Conference’s Player and Defensive Player of the Year. He hit .380 with four home runs and 40 RBIs in 2017, with 20 doubles, 16 steals and 27 walks to just 16 strikeouts.
