Bend captures series with 11-5 comeback victory over Knights

Sunday, July 21, Bend, Ore. – Corvallis led early but Bend scored 10 unanswered runs and posted an 11-5 victory in the rubber game of their West Coast League South Division series at Vince Genna Stadium.

The Knights (34-10 overall, 29-10 WCL, 7-5 second half) scored twice in the first and three times in the third to build a 5-1 advantage. However, Bend scored five times in its next three at-bats to take a 6-5 lead.

The Elks then erupted for five runs in the eighth inning to put the game on ice, capturing the series. Corvallis took the opener 16-3 at Goss Stadium on July 19, and the Elks evened it at 1-1 with a 7-6, 11-inning victory on July 20.

Kevin Takeuchi (USC, pictured above) was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs and Thomas Ferroggario (Santa Clara) was 3-for-5 with a run. Quin Dufort (Portland) had three hits, Luke Lavin (Stanford) two and Brandon Cabrera (Lewis-Clark State) added an RBI double.

Corvallis is idle on July 22. It opens a three-game series with Ridgefield on July 23, starting in Washington. The July 24 game is at Goss Stadium and the series shifts back to Ridgefield for the July 25 finale.

Corvallis has clinched the first-half South Division championship and will advance to the West Coast League playoffs for the 17th consecutive season. The postseason starts on Aug. 10.
