Proctor’s homer caps victory over Gerding

Tuesday, July 15, Corvallis, Ore. – Joshua Proctor’s three-run home run eliminated all doubt as the Knights defeated Gerding Construction 11-2 in a nonconference game before a crowd of 1,738 on a steamy night at Goss Stadium.

An incoming freshman at Oregon State, Proctor’s (pictured, above) shot cleared the fence at the 370-foot mark in left field and sent the Knights ahead 9-2 in the seventh inning. It was his team-best fourth homer in all competition.

He was named the Washington Park Advisors Player of the Game.

Cole Katayama-Stall (Portland) had a two-run triple and an RBI double; Braeden Mondeau (Hawaii-Hilo) a two-run double and Ian Fernandez (UCSB) drove in two runs. Incoming UCLA freshman Maverek Russell scored four times.

Starter Nate Marshall (Eastern Illinois) blanked the Marketmen on one hit over three innings, with four strikeouts. A cast of relievers finished up.

Next up for five Knights (29-11 all, 25-11 WCL, 8-1 second half) is the WCL All-Star Game at Bellingham on July 16, set for 6:35 pm. At Joe Martin Field. Infielders Mason Riske (USC) and Blake Wilson (Washington), pitcher J’Shawn Unger (Iowa Western CC), outfielder Brock Ketelsen (Stanford) and catcher Xavier Rios (CSUN) will represent the Knights on the South Division squad.

Corvallis faces the Salem Sock Puppets in a non-counting exhibition at 6:35 p.m. on July 17. It plays a three-game WCL series with the Springfield Drifters at Goss Stadium on July 18-20.
