Proctor slams two HRs in rout of Drifters
Wednesday, June 11, Corvallis, Ore. – Right fielder Joshua Proctor (pictured above) bashed two massive homers and drove in eight runs to power the Knights to a 13-3 rout of Springfield in their 2025 home opener.
An incoming Oregon State freshman, the 6-foot-4, 215-pounder from Altadena, Calif., crushed a grand slam in the first inning, added a three-run shot in the eighth inning, and had an RBI groundout in-between.
His fireworks enabled the Knights (3-5 all, 2-5 WCL) to snap a two-game losing streak and thrill an opening-night crowd of 1,273 on a cool night at Goss Stadium. He earned Washington Park Advisors Player of the Game honors.
The first three Knights’ hitters in the first inning walked. Proctor then hammered a 1-0 pitch 420 feet over the shorter wall in left-center field for a 4-0 advantage. His second homer, measured at 376 feet, cleared the taller fence in left.
Corvallis scored four times in the first, twice in the second and three times in the third to build an early 9-2 advantage. Springfield (3-4) couldn’t come back.
Third baseman Braeden Mondeau (Hawaii-Hilo), the Knights’ leadoff hitter, walked four times and scored every time. Shortstop Maddox Riske (USC) scored three times in his debut and first baseman Jakob Marquez (Lewis-Clark State) had two hits, two runs, an RBI and several sparkling defensive plays.
Second baseman Gavin Brubaker (NW Nazarene) doubled, singled, scored and also shone defensively in his first game. Corvallis turned two double plays and had just one error.
Starting pitcher Zach Johnson (Linfield) allowed just two runs in four innings and retired the final eight Drifters she faced in order. However, he didn’t go the required five innings and did not earn the victory.
Five relievers finished up; Nate Marshall (Eastern Illinois) pitched a perfect eighth inning and was credited with the decision. Michael Singleton (George Fox) tacked on a perfect ninth.
