Pickles pitchers stop Knights in 5-0 setback

Wednesday, June 4, Portland, Ore. – The Knights suffered through offensive woes in a 5-0 loss at Portland on June 4 before a crowd of 3,787 in a West Coast League matchup at Walker Stadium.

Corvallis (1-2 all, 0-2 WCL) was held to four hits and was unable to capitalize on several early scoring opportunities. Every player in the starting lineup except shortstop Braeden Moreau (Hawaii-Hilo) struck out at least once and the Knights fanned 13 times overall.

A 10-day signee from Hawaii-Hilo, Moreau continued to lead the offense, as he doubled and walked. He had two hits, two runs and a walk in a 4-3 loss to the Pickles on June 3.

Mondeau doubled with two outs in the first, but was stranded. Catcher Aiden Hazen (LBCC) doubled to lead off the third inning and moved to third on a single by third baseman Brooks Avery (LBCC). However, Hazen was thrown out at home attempting to score on a fly ball by second baseman Elliot Brown (Lane), ending the inning.

Incoming OSU freshman right fielder Joshua Proctor also doubled for the Knights in the eighth inning, but he also was stranded. Corvallis left four runners on base overall.

Starting pitcher Easton Jones (Utah) gave up two runs on three hits over 4.1 innings. He walked one, struck out none and was tagged with the loss.

The series concludes at 7:15 p.m. on June 5. The probable starters are Nebraska lefty Chase Olson for the Knights and lefty Kyle Larsen of Cal State San Bernardino for the Pickles.

Corvallis continues its season-opening road trip at Bend on June 6-8. Two off days precede the home opener against the Springfield Drifters, set for 6:35 p.m. June 11 at Goss Stadium.
