Knights lead early but fall to Victoria to end regular season

Wednesday, August 7, Victoria, B.C. – Corvallis closed the regular season with an 11-8 loss in the series finale at Wilson Group Stadium at Royal Athletic Park.

The loss snapped a seven-game West Coast League winning streak for the Knights (47-13 overall, 41-13 WCL, 19-8 second half). They took the first two games of the series and closed the summer by winning 12 of their final 15 regular-season league games.

The Knights led 6-0 after the top of the first but were shut down until the eighth inning and the HarbourCats rallied for the win to salvage the series finale.

Peyton Miller (Gonzaga, pictured above) singled twice and had an RBI to cap the six-run first. Luke Lavin (Stanford) and Cole Snidow (Phoenix College) also had RBI singles in the outburst.

Colter McAnelly (Utah) had two RBIs and Thomas Ferroggiaro (Santa Clara) scored twice, singled and drove in a run.

The Knights scored twice in the eighth to draw within 11-8 but were unable to get any closer.

Corvallis is now idle until Aug. 10, when it opens the best-of-3 South Division divisional series on the road against a to-be-determined opponent. Corvallis will host a home playoff game on Aug. 11 and Aug. 12, if necessary.

The Divisional championship game is tentatively set for Aug. 14 and the WCL title game is set for Aug. 16. Corvallis will have the home-field advantage throughout the playoffs because it has the league’s best overall record.
