Bremner off to strong start for Gauchos

Wednesday, February 19th, Corvallis, Ore. – Corvallis Knights 2023 alum Tyler Bremner is living up to his impressive preseason accolades.

The UC Santa Barbara junior right-hander stifled Hawaii on four hits and one run over six innings on March 14 in a 2-1 victory over the Rainbows in their Big West Conference opener before an enthusiastic crowd of almost 4,000 at Les Murakami Stadium in Honolulu.

A 6-foot-2, 190-pound junior from Scripps Ranch High School in San Diego, Bremner struck out eight and walked three in helping the Gauchos – the preseason favorites to capture the Big West title – avenge a series-sweep by Hawaii in 2023 that knocked UCSB out of NCAA contention.

“It’s hard to forget that we came out here and got swept in kind of a big situation for us in the season,” Bremner said. “We needed to win all three, I think, to win conference and to play on in the regionals.

“So it definitely left a sour taste in our mouth and (we’re) kind of coming here to redeem ourselves. Hawaii, I know they play well at home.”

He said he was not fazed by performing in front of the customary rabid Hawaii faithful.

“I wouldn’t say I’ve played too many games in front of big crowds, especially this is a big, big stadium, but yeah, I’m pretty comfortable here,” he said. “I mean, it’s no different.”

As it turned out, Bremner’s win was the only victory of the weekend for the Gauchos (15-4). Still, it was enough to leave a big impression on Hawaii head coach Rich Hill.

“As advertised,” Hill said of Bremner.

The outstanding effort improved his season record to 2-0 in five starts, with 26 strikeouts and only six walks in 24.1 innings. He’s holding opposing batters to a .186 batting average.

Bremner earned numerous honors prior to the 2025 season, based primarily on an outstanding 2024 campaign that saw him go 11-1 with a 2.54 ERA and 104 strikeouts in 88.2 innings. He was a Big West Conference all-star and garnered All-American honors from the American Baseball Coaches Association, the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association, and Perfect Game.

This spring he was named a consensus preseason first-team All-American by D1Baseball, NCBWA, Baseball America and Perfect Game. He was also ranked as the No. 4 college prospect for the 2025 MLB draft by MLB.com.

The Knights open the 2025 season on May 30th against the WCL’s newest franchise, the Marion Berries, in Salem, Ore. Their WCL home opener is June 11 versus Springfield.
