Rout of Southpaws completes weekend nonleague sweep

Sunday, June 30, Corvallis, Ore. – The Knights completed a non-league weekend sweep by hammering the Mid-Valley Southpaws American Legion team, 16-1.

A sun-splashed Goss Stadium crowd of 1,448 saw Corvallis (23-5 all, 19-5 WCL) remain undefeated in nonleague play at 4-0. The Knights outscored its opponents 55-5 in the three games, which also included two lopsided wins over the Cascade Collegiate League’s showcase team.

Second baseman Peyton Miller (Gonzaga, pictured above) doubled twice, scored twice, drove in a run and reached base safely three times. He was named Washington Park Advisors Player of the Game.

Colter McAnelly (Utah) doubled three times, singled, scored and drove in two runs. Left fielder Kellen Segel (LBCC) remained hot and had two hits, giving him seven for the weekend. He also drove in two runs, raising his weekend total to eight.

Corvallis is ide on July 1. It concludes the first half of the season with a three-game series against the Ridgefield Raptors on July 2-4. The first two games will be played at Goss Stadium; the finale is at Ridgefield.

The July 2 game starts at 6:35 p.m. and is Rodeo Night, presented by 99.9 KRKT. The first 250 fans receive a free cowbell. Corvallis’s probable starter is Tyner Horn (1-0, 0.81) of Nebraska; Dylan Stewart (1-0, 1:35) of Pepperdine is the Raptors’ probable.

The annual Oregon State Credit Union Fireworks Night is set for 7:15 p.m. on July 3. The game will sell out, so get your tickets now. Corvallis’s starter will be James Decremer (0-0, 1.58) of Oregon State; Cole Tryba (1-0, 0.00) of UC Santa Barbara is the Raptors’ probable.

Corvallis has clinched the first-half South Division championship and will advance to the West Coast League playoffs for the 17th consecutive season. The postseason starts on Aug. 10.
