Knights stretch win streak to six with 4-3 comeback victory

Friday, June 14, Corvallis, Ore. – The Knights thrilled an opening-night crowd of 1,752 with a come-from-behind, 4-3 victory over Port Angeles in a West Coast League game at Goss Stadium.

Corvallis (12-1, 11-1 WCL) erased a 3-0 deficit by scoring twice in the fourth inning and twice in the sixth inning. The Knights stretched their winning streak to six games in a row.

First baseman Quin Dufort (pictured above), an incoming University of Portland freshman, was 3-for-4 with two RBIs and a run. His two-run single in the fourth cut the Knights’ deficit from 3-0 to 3-2.

Corvallis took the lead in the sixth. Consecutive bunt singles by Dufort, Tyler Howard (Portland) and incoming Oregon State freshman Paul Vaquez loaded the bases with no outs. After two strikeouts, Brandon Cabrera’s (Lewis-Clark State) RBI single tied the game 3-3 and the go-ahead run scored when Ty Yukumoto (Pacific) was hit by a pitch.

Yukumoto was 2-for-3 with a triple, a run and an RBI and earned Washington Park Advisors Player of the Game. Shortstop Peyton Miller (Gonzaga) and DH Paul Vazquez (Oregon State in 2024-25) also had two hits each.

The bullpen had another outstanding night. Lucas Casey (CSUN) went 3.1 scoreless innings and was credited with the victory. Ky Hoskinson (Portland) pitched a scoreless eighth and Tyner Horn (Nebraska) dominated with a perfect ninth inning to earn his first save.

Knight relievers had nine scoreless innings on June 13 in a 12-inning triumph at Portland. They added 5.1 more on June 14 and now have not allowed a run in 16.2 innings, dating back to a 10-4 win at Portland on June 12.

The Knights maintained their South Division lead over Portland (7-4) at 3.5 games.  The champion of the 27-game first half automatically advances to the postseason playoffs.

The series continues on June 15 with Champions Night, starting at 6:35 p.m. The first 500 fans will receive a replica 2023 Knights WCL championship ring. The probables are Riley Ricken (0-2, 14.29) of Cal State San Bernardino for the Lefties and Kaden Segel (1-0, 1.03) of Portland for Corvallis.

The June 16 Father’s Day series finale begins at 1:05 p.m. The first 500 fans receive a Knights poster schedule; the first 200 receive LBCChat. Nine $1,000 scholarships will also be given away. Jackson Flora of UCSB is set to make his season debut for the Knights; the Port Angeles starter is undetermined.

In other team news, Youngjin Yoon has rejoined the coaching staff for his eighth year with the team. He spent the 2024 college season at Cal State Northridge.
