Alum Chad Stevens recalled by Angels
July 3, 2025, Corvallis, Ore. – Another Corvallis Knights alum’s dream came true on July 3 when the Los Angeles Angels promoted infielder Chad Stevens to the big-league club from triple-A.
He was pulled from the Salt Lake City Bees game against Tacoma on July 2. He joined the Angels on July 3 for their series finale against the Braves at Truist Park in Atlanta, started at third base, and went 0-for-4.
He was hitting .307 in 72 games for the Bees, with 14 homers, 43 RBIs and an impressive .924 OPS. Stevens assumes the active roster spot of infielder Christian Moore, who was placed on the 10-day injured list with a sprained left thumb.
“At first I was a little unsure what was going on,” Stevens told reporter Rick Farlow of MLB.com. “They sent Yolmer Sánchez out to get me in the infield, and when he came up to give me a hug, I kind of knew what was going on.
“It’s awesome to be here. We were playing in Tacoma, I’m from out there. It couldn’t have been a better spot.”
He got on the first possible flight to Atlanta.
“My parents were in the stands,” Stevens said. “I got the call, I got the flight that night. They ran home and grabbed my suitcase. I made some calls to the family and a couple of friends. I packed my stuff, they took me to the airport and now I’m here.”
The 26-year-old Stevens starred on two West Coast League championship teams (2017, 2018) for the Knights, before and after his freshman season at the University of Portland. He hit a combined .300 (97-323), with three homers and 42 RBIs, and was an honorable-mention all-league selection in both seasons.
Stevens was selected by Houston in the 11th round of the 2021 MLB draft following his senior season. He was a three-time all-West Coast Conference selection for the Pilots, earning first-team honors in 2020 and 2019 and second-team plaudits in 2018.
Stevens then played three years in the Astros’ minor-league system before being released. However, he was quickly signed by the Angels in May, 2024, and began a relentless climb through their minor-league system before reaching the majors.
He played with the Angels in the Arizona Complex League, with Tri-City in the Class A Northwest League; with Rocket City in the double-A Southern League, and had 2024 and 2025 stints with the Bees in the triple-A Pacific Coast League.
Stevens will be the eighth Knights alumni to appear in an MLB game this season when he makes his debut. He joins Twins infielder Brooks Lee (2019); Cubs pitcher Matt Boyd (2010); White Sox pitcher Jacob Palisch (2018); Giants pitcher Ryan Walker (2015); Angels pitcher Tyler Anderson (2009); Guardians outfielder Steven Kwan (2016) and Orioles catcher Adley Rutschman (2016) in that exclusive fraternity.
Stevens played at Gig Harbor (Wash.) High School before enrolling at Portland. He was also selected by the San Diego Padres in the 40th round of the 2017 draft, but did not sign.
