Dufort shines as Knights complete sweep of CCL stars

Saturday, June 29, Corvallis, Ore. – First baseman Quin Dufort drove in five runs and Corvallis completed a two-game sweep of the Cascade College League showcase team with a 18-0 victory.

A Goss Stadium crowd of 2,078 – the second-largest of the summer – was treated to a 19-hit offensive explosion that featured four extra-base knocks. Every starter scored at least once.

A freshman-to-be at Portland, Dufort (pictured, above) had a pair of two-RI doubles and added a run-scoring single. He pitched for the first time since June 19 and hurled two scoreless innings, and earned Washington Park Advisors Player of the Game honors.

Corvallis (22-5 all, 19-5 WCL) remained undefeated in nonleague play. It drilled the CCL showcase team 21-4 on June 28 in the series opener.

Kellen Segel (LBCC) was 4-for-6 with three RBIs, a triple and a run. He had six RBIs and five hits in the series, and also pitched the final inning.

Brandon Cabrera (Lewis-Clark State) had three hits and three runs; Peyton Miller (Gonzaga) had three hits, an RBI and a run. Ty Yukumoto (Pacific) had three hits, including a triple, scored three times, and drove in three.

Dufort’s two-run double highlighted a four-run first inning. Segel had a two-run single in the second to make it 6-0; Yukumoto hit a two-run triple in a five-run third inning that made it 11-0 and Corvallis eased home from there.

Starting pitcher Laif Palmer (Oregon State) allowed one hit in four innings, with three strikeouts and one walk. He did not go the required five innings to earn the decision.

The Knights close the weekend by hosting the Albany Mid-Valley Southpaws American Legion team on June 30, sponsored by AAA Oregon/Idaha. Grant Cleavinger (0-0, 3.85) of Nebraska is the probable starter for Corvallis.

Corvallis is ide on July 1. It concludes the first half of the season with a three-game series against the Ridgefield Raptors on July 2-4. The first two games will be played at Goss Stadium; the finale is at Ridgefield.

The July 2 game starts at 6:35 p.m. and is Rodeo Night, presented by 99.9 KRKT. The first 250 fans receive a free cowbell.

Corvallis has clinched the first-half South Division championship and will advance to the West Coast League playoffs for the 17^th consecutive season. The postseason starts on Aug. 10.
