Western Oregon junior left-handed pitcher Jacob Fricke (pictured, above) will return for his third season with the Knights. He is a 6-foot-4, 240-pounder from Glide, Ore., where he earned 3A all-state honors as a senior, junior and sophomore. He lettered four times each in soccer, basketball and baseball.
He was 3-1, 4.58 in 17 games with the Knights in 2017, with 20 strikeouts in 39.1 innings. He went 5-0, 2.91 in 17 games in 2016, with 29 strikeouts in 58.2 innings. He was a West Coast League honorable-mention all-star both seasons.
The Knights have also signed Western Oregon freshmen first baseman James Anderson and junior pitcher Grant Fisher to 10-day contracts. Anderson played at Crescent Valley High School, Fisher at Grant High School.
Anderson is a 6-1, 200-pounder who was a three-year letterman at CV. He was a Mid-Willamette League all-star, and earned 5A all-state honors. He also played in the Class of 2017 All Star Game at Volcanoes Stadium in Keizer.
A 6-5, 210-pounder, Fisher played at Clark College in Vancouver, Wash., the past two seasons and was 5-5, 3.39 in 11 games in 2017, with 65 strikeouts in 53 innings. He was a second-team NWAC Southern Region all-star. He was 1-1, 3.92 in 18 games as a freshman, with two saves and 23 strikeouts in 18.1 innings.
Players are signed to 10-day contracts to add depth early in the season, before all the full-time signees report. They can be retained as full-time players.
