Monday, July 14, Corvallis, Ore. – Eight more current or former Corvallis Knights were selected on the second day of the 2025 Major League Baseball draft, running the two-day total to 10.
Players chosen on Day 2 were right-handed pitcher Kaleb Wing (incoming Loyola Marymount); left-handed pitchers Nelson Keljo (Oregon State) and Luke Kovach (Cal Poly); catchers Tyler Howard (Portland) and Anson Aroz (Oregon), and right-handed pitchers Brady Jones (Georgia Tech), Merit Jones (Utah) and Frank Camarillo (UC Santa Barbara).
Eight members of the 2023 WCL championship team were selected. Here’s a rundown:
- The son of former Knights pitching coach Ryan Wing, Kaleb Wing is an incoming freshman at LMU. He was 0-0, 14.72 in 3.2 innings over two games, with five strikeouts. He went to the Chicago Cubs in the 4th round as the 121st overall pick.
- Keljo was picked by Cleveland in the 6th round at 192. He pitched for the Knights in 2022 following his senior year at Jesuit High School, prior to enrolling at Oregon State. He went 0-0 with one save and a 5.22 ERA in 10.1 innings over five games. He was also the Most Outstanding Player at that summer’s Richardson Oregon All-Star Series, an annual high school showcase put on by Knights Baseball Club.
- Howard went to Cleveland in the 11th round as the 342nd overall pick. A catcher from the University of Portland, he hit a combined .258 (51-198) in 67 games over two seasons (2023-24), with 31 RBIs, and an outstanding 55-20 walk-strikeout ratio. He was honorable-mention all-WCL in 2024.
- Brady Jones was picked by Tampa Bay out of Georgia Tech in the 12th round as the 357th overall pick. He pitched for Corvallis in 2023 out of Georgia State and went 2-0, 1.80 in 10.0 innings over five games, with 12 strikeouts.
- Merit Jones of Utah was 2-1, 1.05 in nine games with the 2023 Knights, with 47 strikeouts in 42.2 innings. He did not allow a run in 11 innings in two playoff games and was the winning pitcher in the championship game vs. Victoria. He went to the Minnesota Twins in the 14th round as the 419th overall pick. He was second-team all-WCL and earned the Knights Top Pitcher award.
- Camarillo, of UC Santa Barbara, went to the New York Mets in the 13th round as the 403rd pick. He was 1-0, 1.13 in 12 games in 2023, with two saves and 24 strikeouts in 22.0 innings.
- Kovach pitched for the Knights in 2023 out of Allen Hancock College before enrolling at Cal Poly. He was 0-0, 1.35 in nine games, with 18 strikeouts in 13.1 innings. He was taken by Toronto in the 19th round as the 562nd overall selection.
- Aroz caught for Corvallis in 2023 and hit .215 in 30 games, with a homer and 17 RBIs. He went to the Los Angeles Dodgers as the final pick of the 19th round, the 585th overall selection.
Two other alums were selected on July 13, the first day of the draft.
Tyler Bremner (2023), a right-handed pitcher from UC Santa Barbara, was selected as the No. 2 overall pick by the Los Angeles Angels. He was 0-0, 1.80 in three appearances for the Knight, with seven strikeouts in five innings before returning to his hometown of San Diego earlier than anticipated because of a family matter. He was an All-American at UCSB this season.
Infielder Ethan Hedges of USC, a teammate of Bremner’s on the 2023 WCL champions, went to Colorado in the third round with the 77th overall pick. He was first-team all-league after hitting .287, with two homers, 34 RBIs and 17 steals.
