Saturday, July 13, Walla Walla, Wash. – The Knights were held to six hits and fell 5-1 to Walla Walla in Game 2 of their West Coast League series at Borleske Stadium.
Corvallis (30-7 overall, 26-7 WCL, 4-2 second half) suffered its first road WCL loss since a 6-5 defeat at Yakima Valley on June 7 and saw its 11-game away winning streak snapped. The Knights dropped to 15-3 in league visitor games (counting a home loss versus Cowlitz where the Knights were the visiting team).
Cole Cabrera (Lewis-Clark State, pictured above) was 2-for-4 and scored the team’s lone run. Thomas Ferroggiaro (Santa Clara) also had two hits.
Corvallis’s lone run came in the fourth on a single by Cabrera, a stolen base, a sacrifice and an RBI groundout by Blake Wilson (Washington).
The July 13 finale starts at 6:05 p.m. The pitching matchup is Oregon State’s Laif Palmer (0-0, 1.28) for the Knights and Cam Sliz (1-2, 4.28) of Texas A&M-Corpus Christi for the Sweets.
The Knights return home after the July 14 game to host the Springfield Drifters on July 15 and July 16 in 6:35 p.m. contests at Goss Stadium. The WCL All-Star Game is set for July 17 at Bellingham, to be televised live by the MLB Network.
Corvallis has clinched the first-half South Division championship and will advance to the West Coast League playoffs for the 17th consecutive season. The postseason starts on Aug. 10.
