Stevens Homers as Knights Drop Series Finale at Port Angeles

PORT ANGELES, Wash. – The Port Angeles Lefties defeated Corvallis 12-4  to salvage the finale of a West Coast League series at Civic Field.

The setback snapped a seven-game winning streak for the Knights (10-7-1, 9-5 WCL), who won the first two contests 9-8 and 8-2. They dropped into a tie with Portland for first place in the South Division following their first loss since June 12.

Portland’s Chad Stevens (pictured, above) hit a solo homer, the first of his Knights’ career. UP teammate Cody Hawken had two hits and Sam Olsson (San Jose State) doubled, singled and had an RBI for the Knights.

Relievers Josh McDaniel (Linn-Benton) and Connor Redmond (Cal Poly) combined to hold the Lefties scoreless over the final four innings, but by then the damage had been done. It was the first appearance of the year for Redmond, a returnee from the 2017 WCL championship team.

The Lefties scored four times in the third inning to build a 5-0 lead, and then tallied seven times in fourth to break the game open. The Knights committed five errors, leading to seven unearned runs.

The Knights play a South Division series at Bend on Friday through Sunday. The Friday probables are San Francisco righty Daniel Slominski (0-0, 3.00) for the Knights against a to-be-determined starter.

Corvallis returns to Goss Stadium on Tuesday for an eight-game homestand, starting with a three-game series with the Portland Pickles, the WCL’s newest team.
