Wednesday, April 19, Corvallis, Ore. – Future Linn-Benton Community College pitcher Kellen Segel will join the Corvallis Knights this summer, coach Brooke Knight announced Wednesday.
He is a 6-foot-2, 195-pound right-hander who is presently a senior at Grant High School in Portland. His older brother, Kaden, pitched for the Knights in 2021 and 2022 and his father, Dan, is the CEO of Knights Baseball Club.
Kellen was a second-team 6A all-state and first-team all-Portland Interscholastic league (PIL) selection as a junior in 2022. He was 6-2, with a 1.59 ERA in 11 games for Grant, with 88 strikeouts and only 21 walks in 52.2 innings.
As a position player in 2021, Segel hit .518, with seven homers and 26 RBIs, all of which ranked in the top-6 statewide. He was a first-team PIL all-star.
Kellen also played football and was a first-team all-PIL quarterback and punter in 2022.
His favorite MLB team is the San Francisco Giants and he enjoys playing basketball and hanging out with friends in his spare time. His favorite movie is Cars; his favorite TV show is Family guy and his favorite book is Legacy by James Kerr.
Corvallis opens the 2023 season on May 25 with the annual Science, Engineering & Art Day at Goss Stadium, presented by Paventy & Brown Orthodontics.
The Knights begin their quest for a seventh-straight WCL championship against the host Ridgefield Raptors on June 2. Their home opener is set for June 15 against the Bend Elks.
