Sunday, July 26, Yakima, Wash. – The Knights scored in double figures for the third time in four games as they walloped Yakima Valley 14-6 in the rubber game of their South Division series at Yakima County Stadium.
Corvallis (28-21, 24-21 WCL, 11-7 second half) won the final two games of the series by a combined 30-7 score. The victory solidified their hold on third place in the South Division’s overall standings and kept them within shouting distance of first-place Walla Walla in the second half pennant race.
Incoming UCLA freshman Tate Hammond concluded a fantastic week by going 2-for-5 with four RBIs and a run. He has nine hits and nine RBIs in his last four games and had four RBIs each in the last two games of the series.
Dakota Chun (Portland) was 3-for-5 with a double, raising his average to .393 (11-28). Kellen Segel (incoming Cal Poly) was 3-for-4 with three RBIs and three runs. He also blanked the Pippins over the final two innings and did not allow a hit.
Max Medina (incoming Cal Poly) was 3-for-5 with a double, two runs and two RBIs. Zane Garvey (Portland) was 2-for-5 with three runs and a double, Joey Marasco (George Fox) doubled twice and drove in a pair and Maverek Russell (UCSB) had a two-run double. Corvallis had 16 hits the night after getting 17 in a 16-3 win in Game 2.
Corvallis bunched four hits in a row in the second to score three times, erasing a 1-0 deficit. Hammond had an RBI single and Marasco slammed a two-run double to account for the scoring.
The Knights bumped the lead to 6-1 in the third inning. One run scored on a balk, and Hammond then racked up two more RBIs with a two-out, bases-loaded single.
Yakima Valley scored three times in the fourth to draw within 6-4, but the Knights replied with five runs in the fifth to rebuild an 11-4 lead.
Doubles by Chun and Medina scored the first run. Hammond got his fourth RBI on a sacrifice fly and Segel knocked in the third run with a single.
Russell capped the rally with a two-run double. Segel had another RBI single in the sixth, when Corvallis scored twice for a 13-4 advantage. Corvallis added one final run in the ninth on Medina’s groundout.
Starter Arlo Pendleton (Cal Poly) went five innings and got the win. He allowed three earned runs and had five strikeouts.
The Knights are idle on July 27. They then close out the 2026 regular season home schedule with a six-game homestand from July 28-Aug. 2.
Ridgefield is in town on July 28-30, followed by Yakima Valley on July 31-Aug. 2. All games start at 6:35 p.m. except the 5:05 p.m. home finale.
Corvallis completes the regular season at Ridgefield on Aug. 3-5. The postseason playoffs, involving the top four teams from the North and South divisions, begin on Aug. 7 with the best-of-3 divisional round.
In a roster move, two players will join the team on July 28 and another was shut down for the season after the finale at Yakima Valley. The Knights have already used a team-record 34 pitchers and 51 total players in WCL games this summer.
The newest Knights are right-handed pitcher Levi Hodges of Douglas College in New Westminster, B.C., and outfielder Josh Myers of Porterville College in Porterville, Calif.
A native of Sitka, Alaska, Hodges was 1-2, 4.25 in 11 games in 2026, with 47 strikeouts in 29.2 innings. He is 6-foot, 180 pounds.
Myers is a 6-3, 205-pounder from Idaho Falls, Idaho. He hit .348 in 38 games, with 11 homers, eight doubles, two triples and 35 RBIs.
Incoming Oregon State freshman lefty pitcher Neal Burtis won’t pitch again this season after throwing one final inning in the win. He was 0-1 in five appearances, with 11 strikeouts in 11.1 innings.
He had his best performance on July 21 vs. Bend, allowing no earned runs in four innings in a 3-1 win over the Elks, with four strikeouts.
