Friday, April 1, Corvallis, Ore. – Two University of Utah freshmen pitchers will join the Corvallis Knights for the 2022 season, head coach Brooke Knight announced Friday.
They are left-hander Brady Maylett, a 6-foot-5, 220-pounder from Bingham High School in South Jordan, Utah, and Jaden Harris, a 6-2, 215-pound righty from Ridgeline HS in Millville, Utah.
Both have seen extensive action in their initial season with the Utes. Maylett is 0-0, with a 5.68 ERA in seven games, with six strikeouts in 6.1 innings. Harris is 0-0, 7.27 in six appearances, with four strikeouts in 8.2 innings.
Maylett earned all-state honors and was named the Bryan Axle Hardy Pitcher of the Year as a Bingham HS senior, when he went 6-1 with a 2.47 ERA and 48 strikeouts in 39.2 innings.
A New York Mets fan and prospective health sciences major, he enjoys playing basketball. He favors Wedding Crashers (movie); The Office (TV show) and Atlas Shrugged (book).
Harris was 8-1, 1.61 with 96 strikeouts in 61 innings as a HS senior; he earned first-team all-state honors and was named the Logan Herald-Journal newspaper’s Valley Player of the Year. He was also the regional MVP while leading Millville to a regional championship.
A New York Yankees fan who likes football, fishing, hunting and lifting in his free time, his favorites are The Blindside (movie) and The Hatchett (book). He has not decided on an academic major.
The Knights begin the 2022 season on May 26 with their annual Science, Engineering & Art Day, presented by Paventy & Brown Orthodontics, at Goss Stadium against the NW Star Nighthawks. Their WCL opener is June 3 at Yakima Valley; their WCL home opener is June 17 vs. Yakima Valley.
