Corvallis walks off Gunderson Baseball

Wednesday, June 24, Corvallis, Ore.  – Corvallis literally walked off Gunderson Baseball, 2-1, to end a two-game losing streak in a nonleague game before a Goss Stadium crowd of 1,154.

The Knights (12-11, 10-11 WCL) worked four straight walks with two outs in the bottom of the ninth to push across the winning run. Mark Carpenter (LBCC) took ball four on a 3-2 pitch, forcing Josh Nati (Oregon State) homeward with the decisive run.

UCLA-bound Tate Hammond was 2-for-4 with a double to account for half of the Knights hits in a well-pitched game by both teams. Ryan Severns (UCSB) had an RBI groundout in the first inning to plate the Knights other run.

Starter Morgan Codron (Portland, pictured above) pitched four impressive innings to earn Washington Park Advisors Player of the Game honors. He allowed one hit and one walk and fanned seven.

Nate Marshall (Eastern Illinois) made his 2026 debut with a scoreless inning of relief. Matt Sherwood (PLU), Zane Garvey (Western Oregon) and Kellen Segel (LBCC) also authored scoreless relief innings.

Marshall becomes the first five-year Knight since the formation of the WCL in 20025. He is 3-3, 2.73 in 30 lifetime appearances, with 41 strikeouts in 62.2 innings.

He is 3-3, 4.60 in 23 games at Eastern Illinois over the past two seasons, with 38 strikeouts in 47 innings. He was an NWAC all-star at Lane CC and a 5-A all-state selection at West Albany before enrolling at EIU.

The Knights also added right-handed pitcher Cooper Markham, a rising sophomore at Oregon. He is a 6-3, 229-pounder from Enumclaw High School in Enumclaw, Wash.

He was 0-0, 4.70 at Oregon in 2026, with seven strikeouts in 7.2 innings over nine appearances. He was a three-time all-state selection at Enumclaw.

The Knights conclude their 9-game homestand on June 25 with another nonleague encounter, against the Corvallis Gerding Construction American Legion team.

Corvallis resumes West Coast League action vs. the Marion Berries at Chemeketa CC on June 26-28. Their next home WCL series is June 30-July 2 against the Portland Pickles.
