Monday, June 15, Corvallis, Ore. – The Knights laid an egg in their return to Goss Stadium, falling 13-3 to Marion in the opener of their nine-game homestand.
Walks, hit batters and errors undid Corvallis (10-6, 9-6 WCL). The first three Knights pitchers combined for 10 walks and two hit batters; eight of the Berries aboard on a free pass eventually scored.
Marion scored nine times in the third inning on only two hits to build an insurmountable 9-1 advantage. They added two more runs in the fourth to end all doubt.
Reliever Mark Carpenter (LBCC, pictured above) allowed one run in three innings and was the Knights’ most effective pitcher. Luke Schoeffer (Linfield) closed the game with one run allowed over two frames.
Max Medina (incoming Cal Poly) led off the first with a triple and scored on a groundout to give the Knights a temporary 1-0 lead. Trey Swygart (Portland) hit a two-run double in the sixth for the Knights’ other runs.
Right fielder Joey Marasco (George Fox) doubled, singled, scored once and drove in a run. He was named the Washington Park Advisors Player of the Game.
The Knights continue their nine-game homestand on June 16 with the opener of a three-game WCL set with Nanaimo; the series runs through June 18. Another WCL series, vs. Edmonton, follows on June 19-21.
Corvallis concludes the homestand with nonleague games against Gunderson Baseball on June 24 and vs. the Corvallis Gerding Construction American Legion team on June 25.
The highlight of the homestand is the June 20 Drone Night game vs. Edmonton, with a special 7:05 p.m. starting time.
The Knight also made several roster moves.
Right-hander Nick Saelens of Pacific, the 2026 Northwest Conference Pitcher of the Year, has been shut down for the summer at his request. He was 1-0, 4.26 in three games, with 16 strikeouts in 12.2 innings. He also pitched 91.2 innings for the Boxers this spring.
Also, 10-day signee Zane Garvey (Western Oregon) was added to the full-time roster. Ten-day signees Jackson Fera and Chanz Flores of LBCC, Berkley Reents of George Fox and Colton Schmokel of Concordia-Nebraska were released.
They are free to sign with any other team. The Knights will also keep them on speed-dial should they be available and needed again at some point later in the season.
Flores hit .354 in 12 games, with no homers and six RBIs. Fera hit .265 in 10 games, with no homer and five RBIs. Reents hit .282 in 11 games, with no homers and three RBIs, and Schmokel hit .143 in eight games, with no homers and three RBIs.
“All four are great kids and deserved to make the team,” Knights president Dan Segel said. “With that said, we only have so many roster spots.
“This year’s group of 10-day players have been a joy!”
