Ten Knights Selected to All-WCL Teams

Tuesday, August 19, Corvallis, Ore. – Ten Corvallis Knights were named to all-West Coast League teams as announced by league commissioner Rob Neyer this afternoon, including two first-team all-WCL selections.

Incoming frosh two-way player Brock Ketelsen of Stanford and rising senior second baseman Thomas Ferroggiaro of Santa Clara were the Knights first-team all-WCL picks. Ketelsen shined both as a position player and pitcher. Brock was named the top South prospect at the WCL All-Star Game in Bellingham and led the league in stolen bases with 35. He hit .328 in the regular season with 48 runs scored and struck out 19 over 8.2 relief innings pitched while only allowing 3 hits, one run and 5 walks. Brock also excelled defensively in center field.

Ferroggiaro led the Knights in RBIs with 36 and hit .304 while playing an extraordinary infield.

Both Ketelsen and Ferroggiaro starred in the post-season as Brock hit .375 with 8 runs scored and six stolen bases and Thomas batted .353 with a double, homer and 4 RBIs.

Corvallis was the second most represented team with 10 selections; Portland had 11 picks.

Pitcher Zach Johnson, a rising senior at Cal State Northridge, and southpaws Mac Zawisktoski, a rising junior at Eastern Illinois, and Van Froling, a rising sophomore, were named to the league’s second team.

During the regular season, Johnson led the Knights in innings pitched with 44, starts with 9 and tied for the team lead in wins with 4. Zawistoski posted a 1.04 ERA over 14 relief appearances and 26.1 innings pitched. Froling struck out 24 while walking only 4 over 20 innings pitched while posting a 2.25 ERA and 2-0 record.

Five Corvallis Knights were named all-WCL honorable mention: Nebraska rising sophomore pitchers Chase Olson and J’Shawn Unger, rising redshirt sophomore catcher Xavier Rios of Cal State Northridge, rising sophomore third baseman Maddox Riske of USC and rising junior shorstop/outfielder Blake Wilson of Washington.
