May 19, 2026, Corvallis, Ore. – Experience and continuity will be the hallmarks of the 2026 Corvallis Knights coaching staff.
Veteran skipper Brooke Knight, the most successful head coach in West Coast League history, is back for his 18th summer with the club. The Corvallis native has guided the Knights every season since 2008, their second season in the WCL.
Assisting him again this summer are associate head coach/pitching coach Beau Kerns, and assistant coach Spencer Scott, who starred for the Knights on their 2021 and 2022 WCL championship teams.
That trio led the Knights to a 39-15 league record and second place in the South Division in 2026. Corvallis advanced to the South Division playoff finals, but fell to Portland in a hard-fought battle and ended the season one step short of a berth in the WCL Championship Game.
“I am really pleased about having both Beau Kerns and Spencer Scott back on our staff,” Knight said. “Both bring advanced competency and they are a joy to work with day-in and day-out on our summer journey.
“We have a proud tradition that they understand and perpetuate with our player group.”
Knights record is unmatched in the 20-year history of the WCL, which opened for business in 2005. He is 760-307 (.712) overall, with 10 titles in 13 championship-series appearances.
He directed the Knights to WCL crowns in 2008, 2011, 2013, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2021, 2022, and 2023.
The Knights have advanced to the postseason in all 17 of his seasons at the helm. He earned WCL Coach of the Year honors in 2008, 2009, 2011, 2013, 2017, 2019, 2021 and 2022.
Knight has also managed the Sydney Blue Sox, Perth Heat and Adelaide Giants in the Australian Baseball League.
Kerns spent the offseason coaching and teaching match at Lewiston (Idaho) High School, where he starred for the Bengals before continuing is educational and athletic career at Wenatchee Valley College and Lewis-Clark State.
He has also coached at Umpqua CC and at Central Valley High School in Spokane Valley, Wash., and was the Director of Operations at the University of Utah before returning to high school and summer coaching.
“There is no question in my mind, Beau is the most talented summer collegiate pitching coach in the country,” Knight said. “He’s the perfect mix of old school grit and accountability.
“Couple that with an elite knowledge of the ‘new world’ in our game, and analytical analysis and how it translates to development and execution, and best in class is putting it mildly.
“We are very lucky to have him back in Corvallis.”
Kerns has pitched and coached in the WCL. He played for the Wenatchee AppleSox in 2012 and 2013, and for the Yakima Valley Pippins in 2014.
He also coached for the Yakima Valley Pippins 2017-2019. Following his collegiate playing career at Wenatchee Valley College and Lewis-Clark State College, he pitched in the independent professional Frontier League (2015-2016).
Kerns won a NAIA title for his hometown Lewis-Clark State Warriors in 2015, and earned World Series MVP honors.
A four-year starter at Portland, Scott concluded an outstanding playing career in 2025 and then headed straight for the Knights. A Portland native, Scott was a 6A all-state player at Grant High School before enrolling at UP.
Spencer has been promoted to Portland’s graduate assistant coach for 2026-27 after spending one season as the Director of Operations. He works under former Aloha Knights player/coach Geoff Loomis, and with Knights alums/UP assistant coaches Trey Watt and Jake Holcroft.
“Spencer is young in the coaching ranks, but brings a unique maturity that is way beyond his years,” Knight said. “He’s an even-keeled and self-aware kind of guy who relates exceptionally well with our players.
“He provides them with perspective and like-minded thinking. I’m excited to have a hand in Spencer’s development and growth again this summer.”
Spencer played several infield positions for the 2021 Knights and hit .343 in 30 games, with no homers and 14 RBIs. He hit .438 in five playoff games, with two RBIs.
In 2022, Scott hit .274 in 41 games, with no homers, 21 RBIs and 12 stolen bases.
The Knights kick off the 2026 season on Thursday, May 21, with their 13th annual Science, Engineering & Art Day, presented by Paventy & Brown Orthodontics. The Goss Stadium matchup will feature the Knights hosting the NW Star Nighthawks in a non-league contest.
Corvallis opens the West Coast League at Kamloops, B.C., on May 29. The WCL home opener is set for 6:35 p.m. on June 10 against the Marion Berries.
